Announcing the OCV Open Source Project Sponsorship Program

Today, Open Core Ventures (OCV) launched the Open Source Project Sponsorship (OSPS) Program, an initiative designed to help open source authors grow projects with commercial viability. The program provides projects with financial, strategic, and marketing support over three months. Participants receive funding and guidance in setting measurable goals to sustain long-term success for their projects.

Despite their promise, many open source projects lack the resources to generate community growth and usage momentum. In the early stages, project authors are stretched thin between building, creating a sustainable community, and developing the project’s roadmap. OCV’s OSPS Program helps authors gain access to the resources they need to address these challenges and accelerate the success of their project.

Participants in the OSPS Program will collaborate with OCV to establish measurable goals for the project such as number of contributors, project dependencies, and MPRs. Sponsored projects and their authors who demonstrate notable growth in the sponsorship program may be invited to start an open core company under the standard OCV Model. Participation in the OSPS Program does not guarantee an offer for further funding from Open Core Ventures.

The OSPS Program reflects OCV’s deep commitment to advancing the open-source movement. By investing in high-potential projects and their maintainers, OCV aims to cultivate a broader environment of innovation and sustainability in the open-source landscape.
